But he answered, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Matthew 4:4
With the new year approaching, we all are thinking about resolutions we want to make. One of those might be reading through our Bibles or having better quiet times, but reading through the entire Bible can seem like a nearly impossible task. To assist you, there are some really cool resources out there that I want to share that can help give you a plan with your quiet times over this next year. There are a ton reading plans out there, so I thought I would start you out with a few to choose from if you have never gone through one before.
THROUGH-THE-BIBLE READING PLANS
If you want to get through the Bible in one year here are three plans that can work for you. They only take about 15 minutes a day of reading and are a great way to complete the task.
- ONE YEAR READING PLAN: This plan consists in reading a little bit from the Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs. This gives every day variety in your reading. Download, print off and use the reading plan as a bookmark or a checklist.
- THE ONE YEAR CHRONOLOGICAL BIBLE: This plan is arranged in the order the events actually occurred. This is also based reading every day broken up by selected readings. It is a very interesting way to see how all the events correlate throughout the Bible. Download, print off and use the reading plan as a bookmark or a checklist.
- THE DISCIPLESHIP JOURNAL BIBLE READING PLAN: This plan is very similar to the One Year Reading Plan in that you read a little bit from the Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs, except this is a five-day-a-week reading plan. This gives you some flexibility in your reading throughout the week. Download, print off and use the reading plan as a bookmark or a checklist.
SECTIONS OF THE BIBLE
If taking on the entire Bible seems too much, here are some options that focus on specific sections of the Bible.
- ESV OUTREACH BIBLE PLAN: This is only a six month plan that takes you through the New Testament. Download, print off and use the reading plan as a bookmark or a checklist.

And remember to always pray before your quiet times, ask God to speak to you directly from the Scriptures that you are reading. Let God continually redefine your attitude and behavior as you read through the Living Word.
