Psalm 145:18 “The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.”
As a dad, I am continually amazed by how much my little boy keeps growing and learning. He can bust out all of Michael Jackson’s dance moves, he can tell me about every slide at the park, and he ALWAYS remembers what I promised him we would do from the day before.
I love to spend all the time I can with my little dude. He listens to me, he obeys me, and he wants to learn from me. From the moment I get home from work until bedtime, he wants to do everything together. Whether we watch a thunderstorm outside, crack open a new can of Play Doh, or hand a cashier the debit card, he’s excited. He wants me to be in his life.
There is a neat correlation here; as it melts my heart to have him want me around for the little and big things in his life, so our Father takes great joy when we include Him in all the aspects of our lives. I could never get bored while hanging out with my son; how much more does God take delight in being with us!
I’m aware that as Wesley grows older and becomes a man, we will have less and less time with each other. But I will still want to be in his life, because I love him and I cherish him.
In James, Chapter 4, it says to, “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” God is our Father who delights in us and cherishes our time with Him. But like many of us know, finding that quality time to be with God can get more and more difficult! What is it that is keeping you from a more intimate relationship with Him today? Let’s fight for the time it takes to be closer to our God.
The quote by J. Oswald Sanders has always struck my heart; “We are now, and we will be in the future, only as intimate with God as we really choose to be.” Family, let’s make an effort to be as excited about our Heavenly Father as a child is for his daddy to chase him through the sprinklers.
Choosing to be closer,
Bryan
