When you want to become a better basketball player, what do you do? You buy the best shoes, you start drinking Gatorade, and you work on your jump shot in your backyard every day. You put in the work and time needed to improve and grow!

The Bible tell us to never stop being a learner — that “an intelligent heart acquires knowledge” and 2 Peter 3:18 says we are to “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” I’d like to say that most of the time, I feel like I’m growing. I love to read and study, I absolutely love to be absorbed in the Word of God. Give me my Bible, a stack of books, a gallon of coffee, and I’m set!

But there are also days when I feel like my quiet time was no more exciting than folding the laundry or brushing my teeth. Those days are good reminders for me to check and see if there is anything in my life that is trying to take over the joy I have in my Savior. Maybe it’s work, stress, relationships, or The Family Feud t.v. marathon that I haven’t been able to turn off? Or maybe I’m just not as dedicated and faithful as I was the day before?

Christian, don’t stop being a learner; keep growing! Make a plan to faithfully pursue and grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ. Invest the time in fellowship, prayer, and the Word. I assure you, God will continue to grow you more and more into the image of His Son!

Growing,

Bryan
