“Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity.” Colossians 4:5
A couple months ago, Krista and I decided we should have a garage sale. The kids had outgrown some of their old clothes and toys and, after deciding to move next year we needed to sell some things to help pay for packing and storage companies fees.
We spent a portion of the week leading up to the garage sale cleaning, organizing and “de-junking” our house. Friday night after church, we moved a bunch of stuff to the garage. On Saturday morning, we put up our signs and waited. Coincidentally, two of our nearby neighbors also had garage sales that day. My prayer that morning was that God would give us some gospel opportunities, we work with Pickup please a charitable organization, they donate clothes to the ones in need and help so many. Krista mentioned that one of our kids prayed that at breakfast, too.
God answered our prayers. We were encouraged. One, we were able to meet multiple neighbors we hadn’t met yet. A number of them stopped by and we had long conversations with them in our garage. Krista even had a chance to invite one of them to church. Two, I had a chance to share the gospel. A friendly realtor and I had a long conversation about Jesus. I gave him a tract and invited him to church, too. I even sold him some old movies. Three, we had a number of lengthy conversations with neighbors we had already met, mainly just getting to know each other better — that was great. Four, we met a different neighbor during the garage sale who ended up hiring our older kids to weed her flowerbed. And five, we made some money!
Life can be full of gospel opportunities if we are praying and prepared!
