We all struggle with something. Life is just not always what we want it to be or need it to be. We tend to want quick answers to our problems. As we struggle, we can find ourselves asking God, “What do you want me to do?”
If I’m not careful, I can get pretty frustrated with this question in my own life. I find myself thinking that everything would be a whole lot easier if God would just speak up and tell me exactly what He wanted me to do. Then I wouldn’t have to wonder and all my “issues” would become a lot easier, right?
Lately, I’ve had a lot of questions regarding my family: Should we sell our house? Should we get a new car for when our next baby is born? Should we move a little further north to be closer to my full-time job? What should we do for our kid’s education? The list goes on and on.
In all of this questioning and planning, Proverbs 16 has brought me a tremendous amount of comfort. Specifically, Proverbs 16:9 says, “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” When I read this I thought “Praise God!”. Whatever I plan, whatever decisions I make (both good and bad), I can rest in knowing that God is the one establishing my steps and leading me in the right direction.
This is an amazing gift from our Father and a tremendous comfort for our anxiety. God will establish our steps even as we plan our way. We can rest a little easier, knowing God has good plans for us and He is the one that lays out the path before us.
Resting Easy,
Austin
