“Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the Lord!” Psalm 31:24 (ESV)
We all experience times in our lives when we have to wait for something. There are times that are simply mundane, like waiting in line at the grocery store or at the bank. It could be waiting for something exciting, like going on a trip to Disneyland or a long awaited vacation to Europe. Or, it could be waiting for things that are not so exciting, like hearing back about a job interview or waiting to hear about medical test results.
All of these types of situations can lend themselves to a variety of emotions — everything from anxiety, to joy, to stress, to peace, to frustration. The list goes on and on. In our “instant-social-media-information-driven-world”, it is very hard to have patience when it comes to waiting for anything. We want everything instantly and if it takes time, it is hard for us!
But, what does God have to say about that? Over and over you read the word “wait” in the Bible. Wait for the Lord. Those two Psalms you just read above are a great example of how we should be waiting on the Lord for answers! When we pray, answers can take time. Or, the answers might not be the ones we want. Both of these options go against our flesh; we want our answers fast and made to order.
God tells us that we need to be strong and let our hearts take courage. The Lord gives us the things we need at the right time and in the right way. This type of waiting means we need to actively look to Him with complete trust and dependency. This type of trust will give us the ability to be strong and courageous!
