“Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.” Hebrews 12:28-29
These verses magnify how the kingdom of God always triumphs because Jesus Christ is always in charge! Let that sink in for a moment. I intentionally highlighted the phrase “cannot be shaken” because that is an amazing truth that is only realized when we place our hope in Jesus.
I want to be honest and share with you that I tend to get shaken up over the most ridiculous kinds of things. The old “I-me-my” selfish desires of my heart. The “I-don’t-like-the-taste-of-that”, the “my- home-is-my-sanctuary”, the “why-is-this-person-tailgating-me?” or “this-is-my-time-and-my-space so-leave-me-alone” After all, I deserve what I want, don’t I?
I’m sickened by my selfishness when I consider what many of my brothers and sisters (across the world) are forced to endure for the cause of Christ. Our world is headed to an end and one simply needs to gaze out the window of life to see it. Yet, in the quiet recesses of my mind, I know God is a consuming fire and He alone will not be shaken.
The dichotomy of my meager flesh and God as our consuming fire sometimes seems way over my head. That is when I find that I need to desperately dig deeper into His Truth to have a better understanding. Psalm 62:6 says, “He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken.”
Unshakably thankful,
Mac
