“You are my witnesses,” declares the Lord, “and my servants whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe Me and understand that I am He. Before me no god was formed, nor will there be one after me.” – Isaiah 43:10
This verse has been a reminder to me about how close God wants us to be to Him. We live in Christian culture that knows all ABOUT God. There are books upon books dedicated to teaching folks about His character, His Spirit, His Sovereignty, His Power. I have even seen books dedicated to His humor. Though all of these things are good, this verse tell us that God has set us apart to KNOW Him and UNDERSTAND Him, to be His WITNESS.
For us to truly know God, for us to really understand Him, we need to spend time with Him. We need talk with Him, pour out our hearts to Him, and listen for Him. For us to be accurate “witnesses” of God, we need to have seen Him work in our own lives. A witness is defined as “a person who has knowledge of an event or change from PERSONAL observation”.
I often encourage people to read books about God. However, I’ve rarely met a person who is more changed than when they have spent quality time with their Creator (in prayer, worship and reflection of His Word).
God wants us to know Him beyond the encounters of our friends and neighbors. God desires us to know Him past our studies of other people’s experiences. He wants you to know Him yourself, intimately, one on one.
God’s heart for you is not just to amaze you by seeing and hearing the stories of others. He wants to give you a story all your own. He has set you apart to know Him. This week, dig into your Bible and ask your God to reveal Himself to YOU.
Have great week,
Steele
