Treasure hunts are so much fun! At least I think so. You get a map, look for clues, count your steps between each spot, and then, finally end up on the big X! You’ve found your treasure. Most of us would say we are not searching for a treasure chest filled with gold; but, we are always searching for something. We might be searching for a way to surprise our spouse or kids, a way to get a promotion at work, a way to live a healthier lifestyle, a way to make more money, or maybe for the best, wood-fired pizza? The list is endless.
You should ask yourself what the motivation is behind your search… what’s your heart? There may be something you should look at.
Proverbs 11:27 (NLT) says, “If you search for good, you will find favor; but if you search for evil, it will find you!”
If we are searching for things that are good and right, we will find favor. If you find out your spouse wants a specific gift and you surprise them with it, boom! You will find favor with them. But, on the flip side, if your motivation is for evil, you will succumb to that, too. If we give ourselves over (even an inch) to the desires of our flesh, that evil will turn and pounce on us! That evil easily escalates. When we start to entertain even the smallest amount of gossip, slander, hate, sexual immortality, or greed, we’re opening the door to trouble. It won’t end well – evil will find you!
We need to make sure we are checking our hearts (daily) and discovering the motivation behind what we are doing.
Take some time today and think about the places where you spend most of your time. Are you searching for good or for evil?
