The Rock Church supports a lot of amazing compassion ministries. We feel that it’s important to be the hands and feet of Jesus in our community. Making a difference in even one life is significant. Think, then, of being part of a ministry network that can help thousands of needy children and families! What an opportunity to practically help those in need in our community. That’s why we’re partnering with CarePortal and adding them to our Cares Ministry. We want to help make a difference by meeting these very real needs for foster children and their families.
There are over 400,000 children in foster care in our country. Four million children/families are served by the U.S. Child Welfare System each year. There are about 3,000 children in care in the state of Utah. Within that, there are physical and relational needs that arise daily. Meeting these needs can help a struggling family to keep their children out of foster care, as well as helping children in foster care and their foster families. Something as simple as getting a bed for these children to sleep in is the most requested item (plus, so much more)! This will be an opportunity for us to answer God’s call to love our neighbors, “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’” Matthew 25:40
Practically speaking, CarePortal is an online platform that brings the needs of these hurting children and families to our attention. Utah DCFS Caseworkers uncover the needs and make local churches (like us), aware by putting needs into the CarePortal. These requests will go to the participating churches in the valley. Because we’re now part of the CarePortal network, we will have the opportunity to respond and help these children and families right here in the Salt Lake Valley.
Currently, CarePortal operates in 19 states and 1,836 churches are participating. Over 38,330 children have been helped so far. We want those numbers to grow. Won’t you consider helping to meet these needs? We could certainly use your help!
