“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1)
I was recently driving with my family and we saw the most vibrant and amazing rainbow we’ve ever seen. Actually, it was a double rainbow, cascading against the mountains with colors so brilliant and majestic that it was literally breathtaking. In awe, we lingered at the stop light, trying to take pictures.
As we continued on our drive, we noticed several cars pulled off to the side of the road— awestruck people with their cameras out, all marveling at this incredible sight. I was reminded of Psalm 19:1, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.”
Just looking at God’s Creation, and observing a rainbow that He made, somehow gives glory to the Lord. There is an inaudible voice declaring, proclaiming, communicating and explaining to us that God is awesome! He is glorious! That rainbow was God shouting to the world, “Hey, I’m here and I created this earth, I judged the earth with a flood and I will be coming back again!” I was encouraged by the reminder that this universe didn’t just happen. God is real and active in our lives.
We need to spend time learning, observing and seeking the Truth found within the Creation. Our reality should be this: God created it all. As we observe His handiwork, our awe of God will grow and we will glorify Him with our lips. Why not step outside on a clear night this week, gaze at the stars and beauty of Creation – and remember that we worship the One who created it all.
Is God’s Creation glorious? The heavens declare, “Yes!” May we see and declare the glory of God this week as we observe all that He has made.
