Come What May

Come What May, a word by pastor Caleb Yetton from The Rock Church in Draper, Utah. My prayer is that I can learn to come to the place where my first response to the Lord is, “Come what may, You are God and I am not. Your will be done.”

“I love you, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” — Psalm 18:1-2

It’s never easy to go through trials or see others go through them. The health scare Mac went through in Sweden recently, could have easily sent our hearts and minds down many paths. The reminder of life’s fragile state is always sobering.

Thankfully, Mac is back home in Utah and will soon be writing an update for you all. Praise be to God for His protection and loving-kindness!

When we come up against trials in life, where do we turn? It can be so easy to go straight to doubt. How quickly we question God. It’s simple to turn to the Lord and ask questions like, “Where were You?” or “How could You let this happen?”

Now, I sincerely believe our Heavenly Father invites us to come and bear our heart before Him. I also believe we should be in the habit of telling Jesus what we are thinking (He knows it already). But, how quickly I “forget the good things He does for me” (Psalm 103:2) as I look only at the circumstance in front of me.

This week, the Lord has been speaking to my heart. He’s been reminding me that He is in control and is going to do what He is going to do. Just like He allowed King David to encounter trials and hardships — He never abandoned David or His promises to him. After David went through it all, toward the end of his life, he wrote Psalm 18. He was able to sing, “The Lord is my refuge and strength!”

My prayer is that I can learn to come to the place where my first response to the Lord is, “Come what may, You are God and I am not. Your will be done.”

Grace and peace,

Caleb
