Hello Rock Church,
We have been closely following the news related to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) the last few weeks. Like many of you, we are thinking and praying about how to best prepare and protect our families and church. Some of you have asked what The Rock Church is doing (specifically) to prepare?
So i thought about this and how exposed are the older adults to this pandemic virus and the special cares they might because they are in high risk of getting infected.
As your pastors, foremost, we have been praying for God’s protection and guidance (Philippians 4:6-7). We must remember that the Lord is in charge of these events and they don’t change His love and care for us. With that said, He also directs us to prepare in the face of danger (Nehemiah 4:9).
We are taking this medical situation seriously and are following the Center for Disease Control and Salt Lake County Health Department’s recommendations regarding how we should respond. We have also been in contact with an infectious disease professor regarding this virus. Additionally, the Governor sent the attached letter to all of the faith leaders in Utah over the weekend — please read it. And for up-to-date information, visit coronavirus.utah.gov
We would encourage all families to review basic principles of hygiene that are most impactful in helping to reduce the spread of disease, most importantly, proper handwashing (see attached Salt Lake County Health Department handout).
Additionally, we would remind everyone to please not bring sick children (or adults) to church functions and stay home if you are sick.
Please be mindful that some people may wish to not shake hands or hug at this time. Let’s all be conscientious about personal space (hugs, high fives, handshakes, holy kisses ;-)) for a while. Maybe experiment with some creative alternative options like air high fives, elbow bumps, etc. We will be providing extra hand sanitizer throughout the building to help counter the spreading of germs.
We want you to know that as pastors we are working on a “Quarantine Protocol” in the unlikely event that we would not be able to meet together in a group for our weekend services. We are confident that should this happen, we will be able to communicate God’s Word via our live streaming service, which would allow our Rock family to partake of our service from home. We will have more on this soon.
Applying faith with you,
The Pastors of The Rock Church
