Do you understand that God knit us together, in our mother’s wombs, to be born at exactly the right place and time — to experience this pandemic together in our various stages of life? God orchestrated it. Let this verse from Acts 17:26 sink in, “He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation.” In other words, we were born at the right place and time.
I’m so thankful to live in a place and time that allows us to communicate the Good News of Jesus Christ to people who aren’t interested in stepping into a church building. They are happy to listen on social media. I’m thankful that I get to be led into worship by people I know and love — while sitting in my living room. I’m thankful to learn solid, Biblical truths from pastors who know me, care about me and pray for me; and I know they’re teaching to an empty room. I’m so glad my family and I don’t have to be alone while we’re going through this strange season of life, and neither do you!
It’s amazing that we get to have fellowship with other Christians even when we are isolated in our own ways. We can go to Church, Small Groups, Accountability Groups, Youth Group, The Core Meeting, leader meetings and Worship from the Living Room — all without leaving our homes (for some of us, without even changing into actual pants). We live in an incredible time!
I have no doubt that when all of this passes, we will not easily forget this season. We’ll either look back on this time as a miserable, secluded, hopeless time or we’ll look back on it as one of abundant spiritual growth. We’ll smile at how we adapted our lives and clicked that Zoom link to be together and encourage each other. We’ll remember how we shared the eternal hope we have on social media. We’ll remember how we loved our neighbors as ourselves (from six feet away) by simply sharing grocery store items.
God put us in the right place at the right time to be in His Word, talk to Him at length in prayer and depend on His sovereignty to keep us and our loved ones safe. He will give us opportunities to be a light to our friends, family, co-workers and neighbors. Let’s be willing and ready to have those conversations. Let’s lean into this, brothers and sisters. Let’s know and trust that God knew exactly what He was doing by putting us right here, right now.
See you on Zoom,
