During my devotional times this past week, I’ve thought a lot about the amazing love of God. I am amazed as I consider how much God actually loves me! It says in 2 Thessalonians 3:5, “May the Lord direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance.” God gave me two thoughts regarding this verse. First, my heart can be directed. And second, it should be aimed toward the fact that God loves me. Seems simple, but somehow it was profound to me.
Over the years, I’ve tried to lead my heart on the right track into this amazing truth. One way I’ve worked to do this is that I’ve taken time to review other Bible verses on God’s love. I even sing hymns and songs about His love during my quiet times.
Here are some of the verses I’ve been meditating on:
- “How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are.” — 1 John 3:1
- “The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love… For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His love for those who fear Him,” — Psalm 103:8,11
- “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.” — John 15:13
- “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” — Romans 5:8
- “I pray that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge — that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” — Ephesians 3:16-19
Why not pick one or two of these verses and lead your heart into one of the most profound realities you will ever encounter — God LOVES you! You can even start your morning by singing an oldie-but-goodie — “Jesus loves me this I know…”
May God reveal His love to you in a special way this week!
