“Blessed be the name of the Lord now and forever.” — Psalm 113:2
I recently read this verse in my quiet time, and one word stuck out to me more than the others. The word was “now.”
It’s always easy to “bless the name of the Lord” when things are going well, but “now” implies the moment. Regardless of what this moment holds in your life, whatever situation “now” finds you in, bless the name of the Lord.
I’ve been pretty sick for the past week and a half. Like many of you, I’ve had the nasty virus going around. Certainly, it’s nothing too life-altering. However, it’s enough to make it harder for me to “bless the name of the Lord.” Rather than blessing Him, I want to complain to Him. Instead of thanking Him for slowing me down, I’m asking Him to “hurry it up already.”
Of course it’s good to share our emotions with our Loving God. But we must remember obedience to His Word leads to joy and peace that surpasses all understanding. So, even when it’s hard, bless His name. He is worthy of our worship and also has joy in store for you.
No Matter What
If you find yourself in a season of prosperity (bless Him), uncertainty (bless Him), hardship (bless Him), or change (bless Him)!! God is always worthy of our worship in all seasons of our lives. He is to be blessed “now and forever.”
I also love how Psalm 113 ends; it gives us a picture of the heart of God. Verses 7 & 8 say, “He lifts the poor from the dust and the needy from the garbage dump. He sets them among princes, even the princes of His own people.”
Whatever season you are in, bless the Lord!! For no matter your circumstances, good or bad, God is worthy. Equally important, His heart and His plans for you are good.
Today, remember to “Bless the name of the Lord.”
