“so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.” — Isaiah 55:11
If you’re like my family and me, you take in and process a lot of words throughout the week. These words come to us through various means, whether reading books, watching the news, or listening to podcasts or sermons. We certainly live in a time when we hear words constantly.
For all of this reading and listening, God promises that only His Word will fulfill His purpose in authentic spiritual growth.
When we read and study God’s Word (2 Timothy 3:16), He promises to do something in our hearts and minds with what we read. His words unquestionably teach, reprove, correct, and train us in righteousness. Without a doubt, He always uses those words to accomplish His purpose.
We are starting a year-long study through the book of Romans at church. The Rock Pastors are incredibly excited to see what God does in the lives of the men and women in our church (through this letter).
Ask Yourself
As we go through Romans, I want you to ask yourself:
- “What does God want me to understand about Himself?”
- “What does God want me to understand about myself?”
- “How can I obey and apply these words to my current situation?”
Come each week prepared to learn. Bring your Bible and mark it up. Also, bring a notebook and take notes. Don’t just learn about Romans on Saturday nights or Sunday mornings. Together with those things, read some commentaries and listen to sermons from pastors of other churches.
By all means, make this series memorable. Let God use this book to grow you substantially over the next year. In fact, you need to make this book an old friend by the time the series is over. God will use this study through Romans to accomplish His purposes; that’s a promise! I’m so eager to see what those purposes are.
Excited,
