“This I know: God is on my side! I praise God for what he has promised; yes, I praise the Lord for what he has promised. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid?” — Psalm 56:9-11
Reading this verse, I was particularly encouraged by it. David says, “This I KNOW — God is on my side!” He also said that he praises God for what He has promised.
Christian, do YOU know that the GOD of the universe, the author of all that is good, wonderful, and right, the maker of Heaven and Earth, is ON YOUR SIDE?!
And when you think of God, do you remember that HE IS FOR YOU?!
Through Jesus, because of Jesus, and in Jesus, we see that God is for us! He certainly doesn’t wish us harm when we make mistakes. Additionally, He doesn’t turn a cold heart toward us when we’re in hardship or grief. Along with that, Jesus is not indifferent to our problems, perils, or pains. Oh no, in all of this, He is FOR US.
Equally important, we can praise Him because of what He has PROMISED. Friends, do you know some of the promises of God? Have you locked them into your heart to bring Him praise or build your faith?
There are too many promises to share here, but these are just a few:
Bible Promises About God’s Goodness
- “The Lord is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made.” — Psalm 145:9
- “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” — James 1:17
- “The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him.” — Nahum 1:7
God’s Promises About Being With Us:
- “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” — Isaiah 41:10
- “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”— Jeremiah 29:11
- “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” — Joshua 1:9
God’s Promises About Provision:
- “So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” — Matthew 6:31-33
- “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” — Matthew 7:9-11
- “No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.” — Romans 8:39
Amazing Things Jesus Promised:
- “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” — Matthew 11:28-30
- “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” —John 14:6
- “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” — John 8:12
- “The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners …” — Isaiah 61:1
Christian, what is your view of God? What do you think Jesus is like when He thinks of you? Is He smiling? Possibly compassionate and near? How about understanding? Maybe there is confident hope?
Brothers and sisters, God is forever ON YOUR SIDE! Just look at His promises. Always allow them to lead you toward praise.
