The election is less than two weeks away (November 5). Earlier this year, we took six weeks to study what the Bible teaches about politics in our King Jesus series. We specifically covered several important lessons during that time. Here are a few significant reminders as we approach election day.
- First, if you aren’t registered to vote, please register before Friday, October 25.
It says in Jeremiah 29:7, “But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.” More Christians voting biblically is a significant way we can bring good to our city, state, and country.
- Second, please pray for the election and our elected officials.
This verse is such a powerful reminder of the power of prayer. “First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.” 1 Timothy 2:1-2.
He Is Sovereign
What should we pray for our elected officials? You could pray they get saved if they aren’t Christians. Additionally, pray they make wise, godly decisions in the fear of the Lord. Also, ask the Lord to surround them with Christians to help them lead. And especially heading into election day, pray, “Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven!” By all means, lead your family in praying for the election in the next few weeks!
- Third, Church, no matter what happens on election day (whether your candidate wins or loses), don’t forget that the Lord is always sovereign over all.
These are excellent verses and truths to remember:
“Blessed be the name of God forever and ever, to whom belong wisdom and might. He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding.” — Daniel 2:20-21
“Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment.” — Romans 13:2
Church, without a doubt, we need to vote, pray, and watch what happens in just two weeks. Equally important, let’s demonstrate in thought, word, and deed that we trust our good, sovereign ruler, King Jesus!
