“The Lord will fulfill His purpose for me.” — Psalm 138:8 (NIV84)
“For when David had served God’s purpose in his own generation, he fell asleep…” — Acts 13:36 (NIV84)
Life can oftentimes feel confusing. Even after being a Christian leader for over 40 years, I still find myself asking, “God, what are you doing?” or “God, what do you want ME to do?” Without question, I’m someone who likes to plan. And not having clarity on these questions (especially concerning our church’s direction) can be unsettling.
I recently meditated on these verses and felt reassured that God is in control. Equally important, He has a good plan for my life. David certainly had a confident belief in God’s unwavering promise to fulfill His purposes in his life. That prompted me to consider my own journey. It encouraged me that, without a doubt, God has a purpose for me and our church.
Will You Submit?
In Acts 13:36, I saw that God was faithful to King David. He allowed him to serve His purposes throughout his life. Seeing that was a comforting reminder. I, too, am part of God’s plan. And that plan ultimately rests in His hands, not mine. I just need to be open to being used by God and submit to His will. To that end, each day, I want to yield my plans and say, “Have your way with me, O Lord.”
After I thought about all of this, I committed to strengthening my trust in God. I want to always allow Him to guide both His purposes for me and also for our church. The Lord’s plans are absolutely perfect, and His purposes will prevail.
How about you? Will you submit to the plans and purposes of your incredible Father? What about even when life seems confusing? If you do, you’ll join David — a man after God’s own heart. And together, we can surely fulfill His purposes.
Serving God’s purposes alongside you,
