You may have read of the recent news stories concerning the Ashley Madison website. Sadly, it is a dating website that targets married people who are looking to have an affair. Recently, hackers broke into the website’s servers and stole their information. Now, millions of people (who were either openly or secret looking to have an affair) have been exposed.
I recently read news stories about the website’s data. People have analyzed the “profiles” and determined that many of them were falsified. Apparently, “profiles” were created by some workers at the company to get more traffic.
Imagine if you could go back in time and a married friend told you they wanted to use that website’s evil services to have an affair. You stopped them and said, “Wait, no, don’t! Every person who uses that website will someday be exposed. Religious and political leaders will be embarrassed when those lists go public. Your sin would be published on websites across the internet.” That would stop most people from using Ashley Madison.
But, let’s say that didn’t stop your stubborn, married friend; they still wanted to use the website. So, you said, “Ok, listen to me. Not only will your sins be publicly exposed someday, but many of the profiles on that website were fake. They weren’t even real!” If the first warning didn’t stop them, you would hope the second warning would.
Do you realize that this is the lesson for every sin our heart craves? Ultimately, all of our sins (secret and public) will be exposed. Sin is fake and it never satisfies long-term.
Jesus said in Luke 12:2, “Nothing is covered up that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. Therefore whatever you have said in the dark shall be heard in the light, and what you have whispered in private rooms shall be proclaimed on the housetops.”
All sin will be exposed!
Jesus also said in John 10:10,”The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
Again, you have to remember that sin is fake. It will never satisfy long-term. The only real satisfaction is found in God. Whatever your poison of choice, remember, it will all be exposed someday. Sin never satisfies.
