Secure in Christ!

Secure in Christ – a word by Pastor Steve McInroy from The Rock Church in Draper, UT. "This same security will always be available for my children and grandchildren and it doesn’t depend on me. Woo Hoo — secure in Christ!"

Being secure (or trying to find a sense of security) can sometimes seem impossible. This is true, even for our church. Over the years, we’ve had numerous trailers and items stolen from our property. If you can believe it, we’ve even had the church truck itself (and the catalytic converter) taken twice!

Our society spends lots of money on and goes to great lengths to protect itself. For example, there are alarms for homes, businesses, and cars. We have motion sensitive lighting, gated communities, cameras, weapons, neighborhood watches, and even active security during church services. The old saying used to be “don’t go down a dark alley at night.” Nowadays, I wonder if we’re more prone to say, “don’t even go out if you’re alone.”

Finding Comfort and Security

Especially when my kids were little, I used to carry a burden for their well-being. Now, as a parent of adult children, I still do, but it’s different. I’m there for them, but I’m confident they will take precautions as they face the obstacles of life. Although, I must admit the grandchildren do bring back that same sense of needing to protect. I wonder if that’s how God thinks of us?

I hope this Proverb will bring comfort and security to you and your family as it does for me:

“Those who fear the Lord are secure; he will be a refuge for their children.” Proverbs 14:2

Two things stand out to me in this verse:

  • This same security will always be available for my children and grandchildren and it doesn’t depend on me.

Woo Hoo — secure in Christ!
