In a recent sermon of mine, I mentioned four of my favorite displays of God’s power (found in the Old Testament). They were: Creation, the Flood, parting the Red Sea, and making the sun stand still.
I’ve had a good time going through Jesus’ New Testament miracles, relating them to miraculous events in the Old Testament. There are a lot of similarities between His miracles and those found in the Old Testament. One thing that has undeniably stood out to me, is how personal all of Jesus’ miracles were.
Old Testament vs. New Testament
In the Old Testament, God created Adam and Eve. However, in the New Testament, God created food and fed Adam and Eve’s hungry descendants. (Genesis 2:4, Mark 6:30)
In the Old Testament, the wind and waves obeyed Him and brought forth the biggest storm the world has ever known. By contrast, in the New Testament, the wind and waves obeyed Him as He calmed the storm. (Genesis 7:6, Matthew 8:23)
In the Old Testament, He parted the Red Sea for the Israelites to walk through. In the New Testament, He didn’t bother parting the water. He actually walked on top of it (and invited Peter to join Him). Side thought, if the Israelites had had enough faith while leaving Egypt, could they have walked on top of the Red Sea instead of through it? (Exodus 14:15, Matthew 14:22)
In the Old Testament, God held the sun still in the sky for His people. In the New Testament, there will be no need for the sun — the glory of God gives light and the lamp is the Lamb. (Joshua 10:12, Revelation 21:23)
I’m so thankful that we serve a powerful God — without a doubt, One who always has a personal interest in our lives!
