My family and I recently visited a church in Ohio while on vacation. As I bought some books from the church book store, the woman behind the counter asked where I was from. When I told her Utah, she introduced us to her co-worker, Sarah. She and her family had recently moved there from Utah. We chatted briefly and discovered that we had a few mutual friends.
I met Sarah’s husband that evening at their communion service. It didn’t take long to learn that Jonathan was good friends with two of my Christian co-workers and one of my Christian clients. It also turned out that he was very close with one of my friends who pastors a church in Hawaii!
God’s Kingdom is Alive
Without a doubt, I don’t know if the world had ever felt smaller than it did during that conversation. I was at a church in the middle of a small town in Ohio — where my mother-in-law lived as a child. By God’s providence, I met a brother who shared mutual friends with me, thousands and thousands of miles away.
This world is massive — there are close to eight billion people in it. God knows and loves each and every one of His chosen people. He has promised He is preparing a place for us in His Kingdom. Until we get there, however, know that God’s Kingdom on this earth is very much alive and working to accomplish His will. Amidst the nearly eight billion people in our world, God’s people will absolutely be known because of their love for one another (John 13:35). We are His people; He is our King and His Kingdom is huge!
In Christ,
