“The Christian life is not a constant high. I have my moments of deep discouragement. I have to go to God in prayer with tears in my eyes, and say, ‘O God, forgive me,’ or ‘Help me.’” –Billy Graham
We are a couple days into 2014 now. You might have even taken down your Christmas tree and quit making cookies, and you are willing to try eating vegetables for the first time since the green bean casserole at Thanksgiving. You’ve got your one year Bible plan out and you are ready to take on this year! But it only takes about two minutes on Facebook, or a text or email from a good friend to know that we are all facing the same battles that we were a couple weeks ago. Our relationship with the Lord is vital to equipping us for the fight. Our invaluable time spent reading the Word, and our moments praying to the merciful Creator of the universe, are two of the greatest ways we can find comfort in our trials and protect ourselves from the arrows of the enemy. Maybe it starts with just five minutes a day, and it grows. We grow.
We just spent an entire month celebrating the birth of our King, and the dawn of His redeeming grace. He wants to talk to us. He wants to hear our status updates more than anyone! He bought us at a tremendous price and wants to have a relationship with us. With no barriers in between us, we can simply pray to Him.
James 5:16 says that the “prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” (NIV) Please be praying for your brothers and sisters; for your family!
One simple way to start today would be to download, print, or view The Rock Church’s Prayer List. We put it out monthly, and want you to be joining us in asking God to bless and grow us as a body of believers. Start a habit of praying with us each day by putting it up on your fridge, throwing a copy of it into your Bible, or reading our status updates on Facebook.
Let’s get equipped together to fight our battles in 2014 by going to God first.
