  2. Words VS. Heart

    Words VS Heart

“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.” — Psalm 19:14 (ESV)

Lately, I have been thinking about the relationship between our words and/or our actions in relation to the condition of our heart. It is somewhat easy to mask the true condition of our heart with our words. Things are easier said, than truly believed. But, we can only pay lip service for so long before the true condition of our heart is exposed. I really like what the Psalmist is saying here because he is not just talking about his heart, but his words, too.

    Kindness

“Your kindness will reward you, but your cruelty will destroy you.” Proverbs 11:17

What a simple but impactful verse to obey. Being kind will reward you; being cruel will destroy you. This can apply to your thoughts, your actions, and your words.

    Pray

Most of us would say we have room to grow in the area of prayer. Ask any Christian (who has a great relationship with God) if they pray much. I guarantee you they’ll tell you that they do. That’s because there’s no other way for us to communicate with God except through prayer. Yet, for some reason, so many of us fall terribly short in our prayer lives.

    Resurrection

This past weekend we celebrated Easter — the celebration of the death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. It’s a time to remember what Jesus did for us when He conquered death on the cross. You might still wonder, what is the significance of the Resurrection and what did it accomplish for us?

First, we can know that the Resurrection of Jesus Christ justifies us before God. In Romans 4:25 Paul writes… “Who was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification.” Justification means, “the action of declaring or making righteous in the sight of God.” We can take great comfort in this truth. Because of our sinful nature we are separated from God and are not at all capable of a relationship with him (see more in Romans 6:28 and Isaiah 59:2). But, Jesus stepped in and took our punishment. He was the payment for our sins, something that we couldn’t do on our own!

Unbelief, A Word from Pastor Tony D'Amico

“And Jesus said to him, “‘If you can’! All things are possible for one who believes.” Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!” Mark 9:23-24

This verse is about Jesus healing the boy with the unclean spirit. The father of the boy knew that Jesus and His disciples were doing some pretty incredible things, so he decided to take his son to the disciples for help. They were not able to cast out the evil spirit. Jesus, in His love, then came and asked the man what he was looking for? The man asked for compassion and help for his son.

Recently, I have been living inside of the Psalms, reading them over and over again. I just love how David wrote down his thoughts so poetically.

One of the Psalms that really spoke to me, was Psalm 40. David expressed what I believe is a scenario we all tend to experience when we first get saved.

First, in verses 40:1-3, God pulls us out of our old life and gives us a new song, new life, gives us salvation. Then, in verses 40:4-10, there is that exciting feeling we have knowing all of the great things that God has done for us — we proclaim it to the world. Next, in verses 40:11-15, we see the critics, the skeptics, the haters of God. The ones who start to attack our new found life with Him! They try to destroy, humiliate and shame us for loving God.

“Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the Lord!” Psalm 31:24 (ESV)

We all experience times in our lives when we have to wait for something. There are times that are simply mundane, like waiting in line at the grocery store or at the bank. It could be waiting for something exciting, like going on a trip to Disneyland or a long awaited vacation to Europe. Or, it could be waiting for things that are not so exciting, like hearing back about a job interview or waiting to hear about medical test results.
