  1. Do Not Fear

“Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” — Isaiah 41:10 (NASB)

What an absolutely beautiful promise from our Father!

When my oldest son was just a few years old, my family and I went to Lake Havasu for a boating trip. As we stopped in some coves while riding the boat, I took my son Abel into the water to swim with me. He had always been pretty hesitant when it came to water. After I put on my life jacket, I grabbed a floating swim noodle. Then, I picked up my cautious son (in his life jacket) and gently got into the lake. Abel safely floated in my arms with his head high above the water.

  2. Meeting Together

Meeting Together – a word by Pastor Steve McInroy from The Rock Church in Draper, UT. "even Jesus took time to get away on His own. But I do believe there is tremendous value in meeting together."

I have been undeniably blessed and privileged to meet with many people over the years. In fact, it is one of the most character-developing habits the Lord has placed in my life. I’m naturally an introvert; before giving my life to Christ, I was pretty happy riding my horse of life alone. Just me and my family. Perhaps you can relate? Without a doubt, a “lone ranger” existence was just fine by me. Now, I’m not saying that’s wrong. But I do believe God has better for us. These verses always spur me on,

  3. Live by the Spirit

Live by the Spirit – a word by Pastor Tony D'Amico from The Rock Church in Draper, UT. "ask the Holy Spirit for help when a conflict or a hard conversation develops. I ask myself, “What is the desired fruit from this situation,"

“For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” If you bite and devour each other, watch out, or you will be destroyed by each other.” — Galatians 5:14-15

The Fruit of the Spirit is an outpouring of the Holy Spirit working in our lives. Paul explains the fruits to the Galatians right after these verses. They are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These virtues are interconnected and essential for our spiritual growth.

However, we can easily cultivate the opposite virtues. They entirely oppose the working of the Holy Spirit. Responding in our flesh leads to negative consequences, such as hate, despair, anxiety, impatience, cruelty, wickedness, unfaithfulness, harshness, and impulsiveness.

  4. It Shall Not Return Empty

"so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose," – a word from Pastor Billy Johnson from The Rock Church in Draper, UT.

“so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.” — Isaiah 55:11

If you’re like my family and me, you take in and process a lot of words throughout the week. These words come to us through various means, whether reading books, watching the news, or listening to podcasts or sermons. We certainly live in a time when we hear words constantly.

For all of this reading and listening, God promises that only His Word will fulfill His purpose in authentic spiritual growth.

  5. Pray for Workers

Pray for Workers – a word by Pastor Steve McInroy from the Rock Church in Draper, UT. "people prayed for workers to come to Utah. I’m also very grateful to be part of a church filled with people who want to serve the Lord."

My family and I have been incredibly blessed to be part of what God has been doing in Utah for the last 24 years. So many lives have changed. We’ve had the privilege of working side-by-side with Gospel-minded people daily; and the Spirit of God continues to move in extraordinary ways. I certainly believe we came here on the wings of prayers from the faithful saints before us. They were people who recognized the need for workers in this place. Prayer warriors, maybe even some of you reading this? It reminds me of this verse.

“These were his instructions to them: “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.” — Luke 10:2

  6. Bless the Lord

Bless the Lord – a word by Pastor Steele Croswhite from The Rock Church in Draper, UT. "It’s always easy to “bless the name of the Lord” when things are going well, but “now” implies the moment."

“Blessed be the name of the Lord now and forever.” — Psalm 113:2

I recently read this verse in my quiet time, and one word stuck out to me more than the others. The word was “now.”

It’s always easy to “bless the name of the Lord” when things are going well, but “now” implies the moment. Regardless of what this moment holds in your life, whatever situation “now” finds you in, bless the name of the Lord.

  7. Bold as a Lion

Bold as a Lion – a word by Pastor Josh Whitney from The Rock Church in Draper, UT. "as God’s children, we can be people of courage. Because of what God has done for us, we can be as bold as lions!"

“The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion.” — Proverbs 28:1

Do you read the news? There is certainly a lot out there to cause worry and fear in my heart. So much is going on — from political unrest to droughts (and now flooding), shootings, economic news (inflation, the banking crisis, or interest rates), wars, rumors of wars, increasing wickedness, the love of many growing cold, etc. All that is happening locally, nationally, and globally naturally fills us with worry and fear.

  8. Hope in Hardship

Hope in Hardship – a word by Pastor Bill Young from The Rock Church in Draper, UT. "The Apostle Paul reminds us that to find true peace and hope during hardship, we need an eternal perspective on our problems."

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” — John 14:27 (NIV84)

A few weeks ago, I taught how to have hope in the midst of hardship. Many people told me that that message was precisely what they needed. I certainly needed to hear it, too! Life is always full of suffering, and there is no way to avoid it. In fact, Jesus promised, “In this world, you will have trouble.” (John 16:33b)

The reality of pain and suffering forces us to ask ourselves, “Where is my hope?” Jean-Paul Sartre, a well-known atheist, was agonizing over the thought of death. People heard him repeatedly say, “I know I shall die in hope…but hope needs a foundation!” I am eternally thankful to God for giving us a solid foundation on which we can have hope – even as we walk through the valley of death, difficulty, grief, and sorrow.

  9. It is Good to be Near God

It is Good to be Near God – a word by Pastor Caleb Yetton from The Rock Church in Draper, UT. "When gripped by grace, we experience abundant life. And then comes humility, obedience, and worship. Indeed, it is good to be near God."

Our purpose is to live a life of worship. To know and be known by God. We are to walk in His grace and be changed by it. This means understanding who we are in God’s presence — that our life is not ours. When gripped by grace, we experience abundant life. And then comes humility, obedience, and worship. Indeed, it is good to be near God.

A desire to be in God’s presence naturally fuels an authentic life of worship. It’s coming to a place where our hearts say, “God, everything else out there is a mirage. Only in Your presence is there life and fullness of joy.”

  10. Refreshing

Refreshed – a word by Pastor Bryan D. Edwards from The Rock Church in Draper, UT. "Knowing God naturally refreshes everything. This includes our relationship with Him, ourselves, the lost, and other believers."

We’re wrapping up our “Delighting in God’s Word” series at church, and I get the privilege of preaching our last teaching. As I’ve read and reflected on the verses, one thing comes up repeatedly. The author has such a refreshing relationship with the Lord that it literally changes every aspect of his life. This is equally true for each of us and is unique to the Christian faith.
