Jekyll, Hyde, and Jesus (Romans 7:14-25)

In Romans 7:14-25 we come to one of the most famous sections found in the entire book of Romans. It is a descriptive passage highlighting the tension found in our Christian faith between the desires of what the Bible calls our old nature, or “the flesh” and our new nature gifted by the Spirit of God. Once you become a Christian, do you still struggle with sinful desires? Is it just a matter of will power to overcome them? How do we win our war against our old nature? This message discusses the truth of what The Bible has to say about our flesh and our future.

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, “The righteous shall live by faith.” Romans 1:16-1

We absolutely live in an age when everyone is right in their own eyes. Most people don’t even consider that their decisions could be wrong or their actions harmful. At the same time, everybody is on their own path, trying to figure out how to navigate life. Also, endless resources and influences are waiting to tell them exactly what they want to hear.

Generally considered by many to be “the greatest letter ever written,” Apostle Paul’s letter to the Romans teaches Christians foundational and unchanging truth found in the Word of God. The book of Romans shares the truth about God, His righteousness, and godly living. From start to finish, this letter gives us the right path to take — one that allows us to live a life by faith in a world spinning out of control.
