As another Christmas season winds down, we turn our attention to the fast approaching new year. This week of the year is filled with examining 2018 while looking ahead to and planning for 2019. It can be a time of hope-filled anticipation for all that the next 365 days will hold.

For some of you, the start of a new year doesn’t sound all that bright and exciting. For you, a new year means being reminded of what a grueling year you have just been through. Perhaps it means realizing you’ll have to slog through another tough year of medical trials, family issues, or financial uncertainty? Being in the midst of hardships is so daunting.

“To perceive Christmas through its wrapping becomes more difficult with every year.” E.B. White

I recently read that Americans will spend an estimated $719 BILLION dollars this year on Christmas. That is up $100 billion from four years ago! I also read that 10% of presents bought this holiday season will break before New Year’s Day. And a little less than 25% will still be in working condition by next Christmas!

  3. Betrayed by

Beytrayed, a word by Pastor Billy Johnson of The Rock Church, a non-denominational christian church, in Salt Lake City Draper Utah

Have you ever been betrayed by a friend or family member? How about a co-worker or classmate? Maybe you’ve felt betrayed by someone you didn’t even know? I’ve been forsaken or betrayed many times in my life.

I took a guitar class when I went to college because I want to learn how to play guitar; I needed the credits and figured it would be an “easy A”. One of my classmates was an amazing, classical guitarist and we became friends. We decided to do a classical guitar duet for our final project; I bought a guitar and grew the fingernails on my picking hand for a few months. We had the duet memorized and it sounded great. Two weeks before the final, however, my friend stopped coming to class. He didn’t show up for the final, so I had to play what was meant to be a duet all by myself. Because he didn’t show up, I didn’t get an A in that class. Not a big deal, but I was forsaken by my friend nonetheless.

God With Us Christmas Series at The Rock Church in Draper Utah

This is the perfect time of year to invite a friend, co-worker, neighbor or family member to church! We’d love to have them join us during our Christmas Series called God With Us. It says in Matthew 1:23, “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him ‘Immanuel’ — which means, God with us.” During this Christmas season, we will reflect on the birth, humanity, divinity, and saving power of Jesus Christ of Nazareth.

Confidence, a word by Pastor Seve Mclnroy of The Rock Church, a non-denominational christian church, in Salt Lake City Draper Utah

I regularly need to bolster my confidence in the Lord; the Bible is always my resource. Lately, the truths found in Hebrews (Chapter 11) have been incredibly helpful to me. Often referred to as the “Hall of Faith”, the author brings us to a place of remembering the past, in order to bring clarity to the present. Look at how the chapter begins:

“Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see. Through their faith, the people in the days of old earned a good reputation.” — Hebrews 11:1-2 (NLT)

Joyful Noise, a word by Pastor Steele Croswhite of The Rock Church, a non-denominational christian church, in Salt Lake City Draper Utah

“Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth! Serve the LORD with gladness! Come into his presence with singing!” — Psalm 100:1-2 (ESV)

I recently had the privilege of helping lead three worship services at our church. I was reminded this morning, while reading my Bible, that singing and entering into God’s presence with music is a command from the Lord.

  7. Billboards by

Billboards, a word by Pastor Josh Whitney of The Rock Church, a non-denominational christian church, in Salt Lake City Draper Utah

I have driven across Wyoming about 50 times. During my most recent trip, I noticed a number of D.U.I. billboards. A marketing campaign was designed by Social Zinger to provide a sobering reminder of the consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol. If you also need an effective advertising strategy for your brand, then you may consider getting help from this advertising company in quezon city. The billboards featured a sad mugshot with these captions: “Is this how you want to be remembered?” or “Think this is bad? Wait until you learn you killed someone.” or “Your license. Your dignity. Your job. Gone.” or “Think this is humiliating? Try explaining it to your kids.”

I think drinking and driving is a terrible idea. But, as I drove across Wyoming, I had a lot of time to meditate on these billboards. I realized an anti-DUI campaign is an easy campaign because most people are in agreement that it is a really bad idea. Drunk driving may lead to car accidents with injuries. Facing allegations of operating a vehicle under the influence requires immediate and informed action. An expert legal advisor for driving while intoxicated cases can provide the strategic defense necessary to challenge the charges effectively. This early decision to work with personal injury lawyers can significantly impact the legal proceedings and the protection of your rights. Victims of accidents caused by drunk drivers should consider seeking legal assistance from a personal injury attorney. New York City pedestrian accident lawyers can help those who have been injured by reckless drivers in filing a claim or a lawsuit. In cases of railroad accidents, you may consider contacting a railroad accident lawyer. You can also get assistance from a Schaumburg train accident lawyer.

Ultimate Reality, a word by Pastor Bill Young of The Rock Church, a non-denominational christian church, in Salt Lake City Draper Utah

“The reality however, is found in Christ.” — Colossians 2:17b

According to Webster’s Dictionary the definition of reality is, “The world or the state of things as they actually exist, as opposed to that which is merely imaginary.”

I’ve been meditating on three realities about how awesome Jesus is; they have motivated me to want to share them with others.

  9. The Stance of Grace by

The Stance of Grace, a word by Pastor Caleb Yetton of The Rock Church, a non-denominational christian church, in Salt Lake City Draper Utah

“The LORD passed before him and proclaimed, “The LORD, the LORD, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin…” — Exodus 34:6-7a

During the past year, I’ve come to know that Grace is a lot like an amazing pair of socks (from a company called Stance). If you have ever worn Stance socks, you know what I am talking about! Can I hear a resounding, “AMEN!”?

For years, I had heard about this particular brand of socks. A few people told me they were the most comfortable socks they had ever owned. Not only that, but they had all sorts of cool designs. I had seen them here and there and even checked out their website; I never bought a pair. Well, everything changed last year.
