S.O.A.P. Devotional, a word by pastor steele croswhite of the rock church in utah

Lately, I have had a real boost in my quiet times and it’s because I have been using SOAP! No, not the soap you use to wash with. Rather, a devotional plan. Let me explain.

    S. – Scripture
    O. – Observation
    A. – Application
    P. – Prayer

I am not sure who thought up this acronym originally, but I am certain I have heard Bill Young use it before (thanks, Bill).

Here are a few examples out of my journal — showing you how this has worked in my quiet times this past week.

    Faithcamp Conference

    What is Faithcamp?

Faithcamp is a combination of Faithwalkers and our summer Discipleship Training Camp (formally DTC). There will be meaningful worship, powerful teachings (related to our identity in Christ), and organized activities for everyone! Faithcamp is designed for your entire family. We get the whole camp to ourselves, which will create a great environment for hanging out, making new friends, and enjoying old ones. We will be joined by several other churches in our Mountains West Region.

lifting our eyes, a word by pastor josh whitney of the rock church in utah

“I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” — Psalm 121:1-2

We are blessed to live in the great state of Utah. We have such incredible, natural beauty all around us. And have you noticed our mountains lately? They are unbelievable — the snow, clouds, sunrises, and sunsets! Living in a city with such amazing creation (all around us) is a privilege. But, it’s easy for us to get used to the mountains that we see daily. Recently, a friend from out of town asked me just that, “Do you get used to the view?” I said, “Sadly, yes, I do.” It is human nature to take things for granted.

priorities, a word by pastor Billy Johnson of the rock church in utah

I’ve been at my new job as a maintenance electrician for almost three months. For over a decade, I’ve worked a lot of overtime as an industrial/commercial electrician. I worked in mines, salt plants, airfields, factories, and high rise buildings. It wasn’t uncommon for me to get to work before the sun came up, work all day, and come home after dark. I would then sit at the kitchen table to do paperwork, while my wife waited (for an hour or so), to have a conversation with me. I worked hard to provide for my family and make sure my jobs came in on time and under budget. This is what God called me to do, right? Wrong.

Good to me, a blog post by pastor caleb yetton of the rock church in utah

“Come, everyone! Clap your hands! Shout to God with joyful praise! For the Lord Most High is awesome. He is the great King of all the earth” — Psalm 47:1-2 (NLT)

“Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will tell what he has done for my soul.” — Psalm 66:16 (ESV)

Amen! I absolutely love worshiping God in music. This past weekend, we celebrated the release of The Rock Music’s newest album “Your Love Remains.” The entire weekend was such a beautiful picture of heaven. God’s people coming together to recount what God has done — to clap their hands and shout joyful praise to the Him. The One who initiated relationship with us. I’m convinced there is nothing on this earth quite like corporate worship. Humble and passionate praise of Jesus, together with the Saints.

Identified, a Blog post by Pastor Bryan Edwards of The Rock Church in Utah

“Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” — John 1:29

What an amazing declaration we read in the Gospel of John! A Savior has come into the world and has the ability to take away all of our sins! Then, in Matthew 3:13 we read, “Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him.” Wait, what? Why does Jesus need to get baptized? He is the Messiah. He has no sins to repent of!? This very thought confused even John the baptizer! In verse 14 he says, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”

  9. Easter Series — Death To Life by

    Death to Life Easter Series

The last week of Jesus’ life changed the world. Imagine the contrast of emotions that His disciples experienced during the final days before His death. They witnessed their friend, teacher, and Savior get arrested, brutally beaten, and crucified. What anguish they must have felt at the guilt of their own betrayal and the grief that engulfed them. Yet, only a short time later, their darkness was flooded by the light of joy at the realization that Jesus was alive and had risen from the dead!

Join us this Easter as we experience a unique, two-week journey, that will take us from darkness to light and from death to life! March 24 & 31 (6:00 p.m.) and March 25 & April 1 (9:30 & 11:15 a.m.).

In addition to our Easter series, we are celebrating the Resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday at 8:00 a.m.! We’ll meet on the north lawn for a short, special, 45-minute Sonrise Service. We will worship, take communion, and hear a simple message reminding us of that glorious morning over 2000 years ago.
