Get Wisdom: Practical Wisdom for Life from the Book of Proverbs, is a 14-weel sermon series from The Rock Church in Draper Utah.

The Book of Proverbs provides God’s wisdom for living life. King Solomon, the wisest King of Israel, penned this incredible book of wisdom. It addresses practical issues like: friendship, integrity, marriage, money, matters of the heart, resisting temptation, and dealing with trials. Wisdom for living is found in this amazing book — it promises life to those who follow its advice and death to those who ignore it. Learn how to “Get Wisdom” for your life.

This is a 14 week series that runs from January 5, 2019 through April 7, 2019

The key verse: Proverbs 4:7 — “The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight.”

During the course of this series, we challenge you to read one chapter of Proverbs per day!

The Core: Discipleship, Character and Skill

The Core

Discipleship — Initiating Relationships by Pastor Steve McInroy (starts at 0:00) Discipleship includes initiating relationships with new people and also being willing to take established friendships to a deeper level of faith. We mutually agree to encourage one another in following Jesus. Through all of our strengths and weaknesses, we strive to build an environment in which we can teach, correct, model, and love. It takes great humility. DQ: Are there any (F.A.T.) people you can influence and disciple? Pray God would give you more opportunities to do so.

Character — Reproof & Correction by Pastor Bill Young (starts at 16:15) A growing disciple of Jesus Christ lives a life that makes use of the advice and input of other mature Believers. He has also accepted a supernatural standard for unity and commitment to the Believers around him. He understands the importance of seeking and granting forgiveness to restore unity of the spirit with others. Finally, the mature Believer faithfully corrects and reproves his fellow Believers when it can help them in their spiritual growth. Reproof and correction are not just a good idea, they’re required.     DQ: What is your biggest fear when it comes to confronting someone in love about his or her sin? Why should you do it anyway?

Skill — Biblical Counseling by Pastor Josh Whitney (starts at 33:27) The presupposition of Biblical counseling is that there is an infinite and personal God who has revealed Himself in the written Word, the Bible. He has also personally revealed Himself in the living Word, Jesus Christ. The Scriptures are totally sufficient for counseling in all matters related to personal problems and for problems in interpersonal relationships.  DQ: How can you grow as a Biblical counselor?
