Get Wisdom: Practical Wisdom for Life from the Book of Proverbs, is a 14-weel sermon series from The Rock Church in Draper Utah.

The Book of Proverbs provides God’s wisdom for living life. King Solomon, the wisest King of Israel, penned this incredible book of wisdom. It addresses practical issues like: friendship, integrity, marriage, money, matters of the heart, resisting temptation, and dealing with trials. Wisdom for living is found in this amazing book — it promises life to those who follow its advice and death to those who ignore it. Learn how to “Get Wisdom” for your life.

This is a 14 week series that runs from January 5, 2019 through April 7, 2019

The key verse: Proverbs 4:7 — “The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight.”

During the course of this series, we challenge you to read one chapter of Proverbs per day!

The Core: Discipleship, Character and Skill

Discipleship — Difficult Discipleship by Pastor Bryan Edwards (starts at 0:00) Discipleship is simple, but it can also be extremely difficult. If you have ever opened up your life to others, then you’ve no doubt experienced the trials and discouragement that come along with it. Within discipleship there will often be difficulties because discipleship involves people. As disciple makers, we need to be aware of the reasons we may want to avoid it. We also need to remind ourselves of the good work God has called us to. Discussion Question: From the list of “Bad reasons to not make disciples”, which one do you find yourself using the most? Explain your reasoning.

Character — Forgiveness by Pastor Bill Young (starts at 15:39) Forgiveness always sounds good — at least in theory. We are told in Colossians 3:13 to, “Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” But, how do we do that? What happens when I get hurt by someone and have difficulty forgiving them? How can I practically forgive them? We will learn five steps to forgiving others. Discussion Question: For you, what is the hardest part of forgiving someone who has greatly sinned against you? Why is it so difficult and why should you forgive them anyway?

Skill — Small Group Formats by Pastor Tony D’Amico (starts at 37:48) Each Small Group is unique. With some planning, you can structure the time for each meeting. This will not only help with expectations, but will set a standard of excellence by making the best use of time. Planning is a much-needed Skill to effectively lead Small Groups. Here are four things you can do to start planning. Discussion Question: What is one area where you feel you can create a better experience for your Small Group? Either as a leader or an attendee?
