Spoiler Alert! (2 Peter 3:10-18)

Have you ever had a book or movie “spoiled" because someone shared the ending with you? This can be very frustrating. Or, it can be a relief, depending on your personality. As we conclude our study of 1 & 2 Peter, Peter reveals details of how our world will end. Rather than being a “spoiler" this is, in fact, a really good thing to know! Understanding that nothing in the universe is permanent (and that the earth is not our real home) should help keep us from ungodly living. The fact that Jesus is coming back (and heaven awaits the righteous) should bring us joy. It should also cause us to live holy lives. We’ll look at four characteristics of the Christian who really believes that the end of the world is near.

Peter is one of the most beloved characters in the Bible. Many people can relate to his reckless, passionate, rash, wild and fearless qualities. As we begin this study through Peter’ s first letter to the churches, we will discover that he has a unique ability to encourage believers in faith, obedience and patience. His experiences, and close relationship with Jesus, allow him to direct us in God’s way while offering comfort in suffering, and joy as we hope in Christ.
