It’s Worth Your Time

It's Worth Your Time, a blog post by Mary Young from The Rock Christian Church in Draper Utah.

It can be hard to make the time to go to a women’s conference. There are so many demands on our time….places to go, people to see and things to do. Oftentimes, we just want to stay home, rather than try something new. We can struggle with insecurities like, “What if I don’t know anyone?”, “What if I don’t like the speaker?” or “Is it really going to be worth my time?”

I will answer that last question for you….yes, going to a women’s conference is always worth your time. Not because of the cute name tags and catered lunch. It’s because Jesus will be there. He’ll show up in the relationships around you and speak to you — through other women, the worship time and the messages you here.

Our Uniquely Yoked Women’s Conference was powerful and so full of His Truth — His heart for each one of us. Over half of the women attended had never been to a women’s conference at our church before. That’s so exciting because it means women are reaching out to connect with others and hear from Him.

Uniquely Yoked was centered around what it means to live in this world but not be of it. How to be a Christian woman who came come to Jesus when she is weary and tired and He will give her rest.

Morgan Thatcher’s messages were heartfelt, real and honest. She has walked with the Lord a long time. She’s dealt with very real (and difficult) struggles in her marriage and in relationships around her. She shared how as she has sat at His feet daily, in His Word, He has changed her. He has enabled her to become the woman He planned for her to be, amidst the challenges He allowed.

She challenged us to go to Him, to get the strength we need. It starts with a relationship with Him. The place for true and lasting change. She was honest about the worries we all have. Little ones and panic attack sized ones. No matter how we’re wired to handle the stress in our lives, He wants us to cry out to Him; we need to make the choice to lean into Him and then do battle against our flesh.

He also wants us to be content with what He has given us — NOT to compare who we are to anyone else. He has a plan just for you; He wants you to find out who He made you to be. She reminded us that God has people in our lives to help us grow. Sometimes it’s family members and sometimes it’s friends. You will become like those you spend time with so be careful. Choose wisely. He will use your relationships to cause great growth in your life (if you let Him).

The bottom line is that Truth will change you. Time in His Word will change you. Jesus will change you. From those teachings to the breakdown discussion groups to amazing food and a very special atmosphere, the Uniquely Yoked Women’s Conference changed lives. I’d strongly encourage you to watch the videos on-line. Grab a friend and watch them together — ask Jesus to meet you in that time and listen to what He has to say to you.

The Power of Forgiveness

This week we are starting a new series called "Essentials of Forgiveness" How would you like more goodness, knowledge, self control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love in your life? 2 Peter 1:8 tells us to “Make every effort” to get these great traits.  But then we read in verse 9, “But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins.” In my experience as a pastor, I interact with a lot of Christians with “low self esteem”. In fact, it sometimes seems like there is no practical difference between Christian behavior and that of unbelievers. Christians have the same worries, problems, troubles, and sadly, many times have the same solutions. We have the same divorce rates, suicide rates, addictions, trends toward depression, and adultery — there is often no distinction! Where is the power? Where is the abundant life?  Where is the joy? How can Christians live differently? I believe the answer is in discovering our true identity — that we are forgiven! Once we believe this, our actions will reflect who we really are. Today, we will look at four truths of forgiveness that will unleash God’s power in our lives!

From Series: "The Essentials of Forgiveness: Draper"

Mark Twain once said, “Forgiveness is the fragrance that the violet sheds on the heal that has crushed it.” The problem is, most Christians don’t even understand the basics of what God’s forgiveness really means, let alone know how to apply forgiveness to others or themselves. In this 5 week series we will discover the very essential elements of forgiveness that are so crucial for living the full—and free—Christian life.
