Honduras Update #6

Our Comforter

Our last day started out at the University where some of the students danced a traditional Honduran dance and then one girl sang ”This is Amazing Grace.”  She had the most beautiful voice which brought us to tears because we felt God’s presence so strongly in that room worshipping together. We were also able to talk to a lot of them who knew God but were struggling with hard things in their life and had questions about miracles or about death. One girl shared how her grandfather, who had raised her, had died 9 days before. She was so sad and was just asking why. It sounded like her grandfather was a believer and she was looking at this tract with the gospel on it saying that the question on it was her own question of “where will I go when I die?” We were able to remind her of the hope that we can have in Christ and how she will see him again in eternity.

One girl who stood out to all of us turned out to be severely depressed and seriously considering suicide. It broke my heart to hear her story but I was so glad Christian and the pastor from the church here were able to talk to her and pray for her. We are praying that God would come in to her life and show her how valuable she is.

Next, we went to a place called the Jericho House where a woman named Betsy takes girls from very high risk situations living on the streets and in prostitution to live in family style homes on the most beautiful piece of land. She listened to God’s leading from the very beginning 44 years ago when she was trying to reach out to women stuck in prostitution. She has witnessed healings in her own life and has trusted God’s timing and provision in buying her land and in building the homes. I was personally impacted by her immense faith through every step and continued faith for all her girls. We were all blessed just to hear her story and see how much she is impacting many girls’ lives. I was also convicted when she emphasized the importance of obeying God. Obedience leads to freedom and breakthrough. Even though I don’t understand it most of the time, His way is always better than ours!  We were also able to plant a huge garden which the gardener had prepared.  This was an analogy for us of how God prepares the soil, designs the seed, provides the sun and water and allows us to join Him by setting those seeds in His ground.
