Eager for Sweden — “Twenty-twenty-twenty four hours to go”

I can’t seem to shake the Ramones song playing on a loop in my brain as I think about the next 24 hours. I really do want someone to “just get me to the airport, put me on a plane,” and let me get going. I’m anxious and eager to get started. I don’t do well leading up to a big trip like this. I stress about getting all the tasks crossed off a list, ensuring everyone is healthy, and communicating flights. I’m an over-planner. I can get distracted by all the planning and forget to let the Holy Spirit lead.

So, the next 24 hours will be good for me to slow down and pray. Pray that God will go before us and arrange the right people to meet at the airport. Pray for the kids to be bold in their speech when meeting new people. I need to pray for the countless refugees we will come in contact with and that we will have opportunities to share the hope and joy that Jesus provides. Pray we will help kick off a new Youth Ministry for Sarah in her neighborhood. Pray that the team gets excellent sleep and is well-rested to be most effective for the gospel. And finally, for God to influence the team in mighty ways that will tremendously impact our church when they return. There is much to slow down and pray for in these next 24 hours.

Desperately Needing God to Lead

So, no, I don’t really want “to be sedated” for the next 24 hours. I want to be present and ready for what God is doing. It’s a great place to be. It puts me in a place where I desperately need God’s leadership and control, not my own.

My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. – Psalm 73:26

Thank you for your continued prayers! We leave SLC Airport at 12:15 p.m. on Friday and will land in Stockholm, Sweden, on Saturday at 4:45 a.m. MST (praise God, it’s only a 16.5-hour travel day).
